International Travel (Packing) Tips

Hi and welcome to my blog post. The boomin’ Boomer is on the road again. I love this “working from home thing” and being my own boss. I don’t have to wait to save up vacation days before I can go somewhere or be scared that by the time I save up enough time the money I saved will be gone.

I believe traveling within your own country and to other countries is one of the most important things you can do. There is nothing like meeting interesting and dynamic people and seeing this beautiful world. It is life expanding.

I have been traveling since I was very young and have had the opportunity to travel to several countries. There is still so many places to go and people to meet.

Before you get on the road or air you have to pack. Here are some international traveling tips I can offer. I have made some mistakes and learned some things and as always I like to share. As a brief disclaimer especially when you are traveling to another country visit http://www.cdc.gov and click on travel. You can get the latest information on any medical alerts and the requirements for shots etc for the country you will be visiting. Also there is a wealth of information online for traveling tips that you can see that fit your particular situation. For example if you are traveling with children. Of course you should check the website of the embassy or consulate of that country also.

But first you have to pack.
The top 4 things I think are important.
1. Your passport and other necessary documents make sure you have them and they are up to date. I suggest you take copies of them one for home and one to carry with you in the event of any mishaps. You always want to be able to get back home.
2. Your money. Make sure you have your cash, travelers checks and credit cards with you when you walk out the door. And depending on what you plan to do and where you are going will determine which is best to have. I always tuck a little money away that I will have for the trip home. I don’t’ think it is a good idea to spend all your cash. Once I missed a flight change and had to stay over and extra night in a foreign country in a city I hadn’t plan to be in and didn’t know any one. I was there the whole day so I had put enough “contingency” money aside that I could take a city tour. Sometimes credit cards are useful and sometimes they aren’t.
3. Your transportation and accommodations information. Confirmation numbers, phone numbers and a couple of days before you leave please check with the airline and hotel or where every you might be staying. One time when I was leaving Brazil (yea I was there again) and had to stay overnight in Miami to catch my flight to DC. When I called the hotel, the phone just rang and rang, no answer no message, so I emailed my sister in the States and asked her to check it out for me. Come to find out the hotel had changed owners and was a completely different hotel. Apparently the reservations didn’t transfer over. But since I had checked I had time to make other arrangements , before I arrived.
4. Your medications, don’t leave home without them. I suggest you just take the amount will need and a couple extra and leave the rest at home. But put in a prescription bottle with the doctors name and a date that has not expired yet. Other things are the herbs you take. A little first aid kit is good.
a. I have my sea/air sick pills
b. Something for diarrhea
c. Allergy meds
d. I take Aloe Vera gel for small cuts or burns
e. Something for headaches
f. Etc.
Especially if you are traveling with children make sure you have stuff. You know your kids. I suggest these things not that you won’t be able to get them where you are traveling to, but maybe you won’t and even if you can, I try to avoid having to do anything that will talk time away from me enjoying myself or having unexpected expenses. But that is just me. Things happen, but once you get to know me you will realize I think “prevention.”
If you have health insurance check to see what the coverage and procedure is for outside of your country.
5. Always have a friend or family member who knows your itinerary. And a way for someone to get in touch with you. Nowadays with the internet, cell phones, etc. that should not be a problem.
As I have said this international and domestic travel advise is based on my experience.
Once you have prepared yourself with the above here are some other suggestions
6. Pack the appropriate shoes, no twisted or broken ankles
7. Leave room in your suitcase or backpack for the stuff you buy.
8. Pets, plants and electrical sockets. Check

Working Your Business at Home

Hi, I work from home. It’s a lifestyle choice. I can play my music without disturbing a coworker in the next cubie. Or even better I don’t have to listen to someone else’s style of music. I can go on vacation when I want. My boss (me) always grants my vacation requests. I don’t have to save for weeks or months to get a few vacation days. Actually I don’t need as much, because I can work wherever I go. And since I love what I’m doing it actually doesn’t feel like work so I don’t NEED vacations. I can talk on the phone without worrying about other people being in my business or even better not hearing all the drama in other people’s lives. I can get up from my desk or couch and go for walks to just take in the beautiful day outside, clear my head, and feel the sun. I plan my own day and tasks. What I have also found is I am engaged in positive conversations. Not the” I hate this job,” or “can’t wait until Friday.” I can even take naps when I want. If you’re a boomer you understand. This is not to even mention eliminating the commute and riding public transportation with all the crazy people. The threat of lay off or cut backs is not looming over my head.

Most importantly my creativity and work ethic is appreciated. I am doing something I love and enjoy which reduces stress and improves your health. You can spend more time with your family, children, and grand children while building something that brings in more income than you ever did working for someone else.

Why Should I Make a Commitment?

I was thinking about the idea of commitment. Sometimes they last and sometimes they don’t. All I have to do is look around and I can tell what I am committed to. Your life and your environment tells the tell.
I have come to believe that you should not commit to anyone else. I hear women say that some men are afraid of commitment. I think when someone doesn’t commit to what you want them to you say they are commitment phobic. I say, why should they?

I believe the strongest, longest lasting, meaningful commitments are to yourself. And I want to emphasize I ’m speaking about your higher self. When you commit to being truthful and honest in all situations, that commitment will reflect in the relationships you have with others. What could be more significant than committing to personal growth, professional integrity, financial freedom and spiritually. Committing to oneself requires discipline and focus. It will help you to focus ‘cause you are going to have to know what you want out of life. You will have to become more aware of yourself. Once you commit to these values your relationships with your friends and family, romantic relationships and business relationships, will flourish. If you are having problems in any of these areas check your commitment to the situation. Why not commit to never giving up, (or better put- sticking to it), to facing your fears and handling them with courage. Does this sound easy? Hell no. Can you do it? Hell yea!

Words Have Power

Have you ever experienced feeling good and two or three people say things to you like “you don’t look so good,” or “are you sick?” The next thing you know you don’t feel so good. Words have power. Being in any business you know that marketing is the key to a successful business. Marketing basically means developing relationships with people. You have to talk to people. Even more important people have to like and trust you before they would even consider your product or service. Being genuine and authentic and using powerful uplifting and high vibration words will go a long way to ensuring a successful marketing campaign.

Love is the most powerful word and has the highest vibration in any language. Use it often. Be mindful of the words you use with yourself and other people. Consider high vibration words like: success, prosperity, great job, desire, I can, you can, opportunities, possibilities, financial freedom, remember. Minimize using words like failure, debt, want, forget and try.
Have you listened to the conversations you have with friends and colleagues? Are the conversations basically, whining, crying, complaining, bemoaning, about being broke, the horrible economy, and the terrible boss, or how hard you work and don’t have life? How about how your life or business is just not working? What you talk about you will bring to yourself.

I like to gossip from time to time. I know it is nonsensical and definitely not uplifting for me or the person I am talking about. So I made this commitment with myself. No gossiping! One way to cut that out is spend the time more productively and turn those negative conversations into something positive about business and write a blog. (smile)

Make the Shift from Employee to Entrepreneur

Internet Marketer Closes Storage – Opens New Space

I did something huge. I have been paying for a storage space for 5 ½ years. The brief version is that with the assistance of my life coach I finally made a decision to close it, focused, made plans and executed them. I flew across country and closed my storage. Well, I wish it was that easy. It was necessary to reduce 30 various size boxes to 16 medium size boxes. The process require a strategy, making quick decisions, letting go, reorganizing, changing my mind, lifting, pulling, and discarding. I was tired and sometimes frustrated, but the important thing is I stuck to it and completed my mission.

So what does this have to do with internet marketing, owning your own business and working at home? Well a lot. After the ordeal I took the opportunity to look at what was really going on with me. As a boss sometimes you have to make quick and uncomfortable decisions. I have had to let go of some good friends as well as old habits in order to move forward in my business. Assessing my plans and reorganizing my activities to get results is constant and ongoing. As an entrepreneur, it’s important to pull all of my strength, talent and creativity to devise and carry out my marketing plans. It is critical for a business owner to remain in order to keep going when times get a little challenging.

When I look at this situation metaphysically, the storage space represented being stuck, there was no movement happening. There was clutter and old things that no longer fit into my new life. I have now opened up some space in my life. My conscious is clear of one bill, released from thoughts about what to do, and always trying to decide what to buy and not to buy because I have it in storage. Busy or Productive? The Question for Home Based Business

I am looking at my emails. There are 245 unread messages. And about 45 more that I have read, but didn’t do anything with. I was just looking for one particular message, but find myself looking at others. The next thing I know 20 minutes has gone by. Yes, these messages do need to be taken care of, one day, some time, but is that time now? How can you tell if you are just being busy or actually being productive? Well, I have learned my lesson. It used to take me hours to check my email messages and respond, and listen to the audios, or read all of the ads. I used to also get caught up with the phone messages I had to return from friends and family. How do you handle the “little” stuff? Like checking the bank accounts, fixing lunch, writing your grocery list, opening mail, calling the creditor that charged too much, calling the cable company to find out why your high speed is so slow. OMG, so many “little” things to do that are not marketing your business, which you HAVE to get done every day. The “little” things can really keep you busy, but not very productive. Is this a common challenge or is it just me? I guess it couldn’t be just me ‘cause there are books about this stuff.

Being the self aware, intelligent, home based business owner that I am, I figured I’d better develop some new skills and knowledge. I knew my boss would not tolerate this behavior much longer, it was losing her (me) money. I read Time Management from the Inside Out and Organizing from the Inside Out by Julie Morgenstern. I listened to my mentors when they talked about the importance of scheduling your activities and reviewing your schedule every day. My resources pointed out how critical it is to write out your goals for the day or for the week. And of course if you schedule time for the “little” things they won’t take you over. Don’t forget to throw in a lot of focus and a little discipline for good measure. Busy just takes up time PRODUCTIVE = RESULTS. Are you A Goal Getter?

I just heard one of my mentors say “We are goal getters.” Goal setting is great, but I guess the idea is you don’t want to stop there. Take action and go after it. Actually, it takes some time and thought to “set” goals. You can’t just jump in and put something on paper. And they should be put on paper. First you have to vision what you desire your life to look like Professionally,financially, and materially. And be specific about that. To make the dream real you have to not only see it, but more importantly feel it. Actually, that’s what makes the dream yours. After that comes the goal setting. Once it is real and the goals set, now the work to bring it to life begins – the goal “getting.” The dream will keep you going, when the “getting” gets tough, things become a challenge or confusion on what to do next takes a hold of you. When you get tired or want to give up, visioning will give you the energy to continue. Being able to see your life as you want it to be is your motivator, your inspiration, your monitor, your rock. Is it different then and now?: A Boomin’ Business Woman

Hi, I’m Tendai, a Baby Boomer. If you don’t know what that means it’s okay. If you’re in business promoting products or services then you do know. For the last few generations, we have been the group to watch, the group to design products and services around, and the group that sets trends. Those of us on the front end have some “stereotypical” characteristics. We came up in a time that was very different. Basically we were encouraged to finish high school, go to college, get a good job, and retire at 65 years old ‘cause you deserve to rest from all the hard work and all the BS you had to endure for 40 years. A very strong work ethic was the name of the game. I also must add that those of us in my age group felt strongly about changing the world to make it a better place for everyone. We wanted to make a difference. Our parents had lived through the depression, so what they passed on to us was how to “make it” on little or nothing and the value of sacrifice. I must say we pride ourselves on that. I could be wrong, some may disagree, but I was there.

Ten years ago if you had asked me would I like to be a business owner, I would have said “are you kidding me, how would I survive?” “I can’t do that, I’m just not the type.” Today I am managing a home based business and loving it. The other way, the job thing, just wasn’t working for me anymore. I had so many dreams and things I wanted to do, places I wanted to go, foundations to develop and the job thing just wasn’t getting me there. I never made a lot of money. It’s a different world now. There are expanded opportunities. I am growing personally and business wise. I chose BoominBizbyTJ as a company name. I use my education, skills, experience, and training to build on the new techniques and tools I am learning. My determination and drive help me to be successful in marketing and wealth building. I say marketing because no matter the industry marketing is a must. Internet marketing is so exciting. It makes sense for me and to me.
